The Credit Union Way — Cooperative Credit Union Association Drives
RTN actively participates in Cooperative Credit Union Association Drives and community efforts throughout the year. The Cooperative Credit Union Association is the oldest continually operating trade group in the United States. The Association actively supports and encourages its member credit unions in their community outreach efforts.
Children’s Book Drive
Each April, the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative in undertakes its annual book drive. The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless works with the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative to facilitate the collection and distribution of new and used books to children in need. Since 2001, more than 240,000 books have been donated. The Children’s Book Drive celebrates the value of reading by providing thousands of books that give children hours of reading to open their imaginations and become inspired.
Student Essay Contest for Seventh and Eighth Grade Students
RTN participates each year in the student essay contest sponsored by The Financial Literacy Committee of the Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc. and the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation. The state-wide contest is open to seventh and eighth graders through their local credit unions. Eight winning essays are chosen from across the state, a first prize winner of $500 and seven finalists each winning $250. Additionally, there are ten (10) honorable mention recipients each receiving $50. An awards ceremony at the State House honors the top eight winners.
College Scholarship Contest
RTN is a participant in the Cooperative Credit Union Association’s College Scholarship Contest. The Credit Union sponsors top entries from high school seniors who are RTN members or have a parent or guardian who is a member in good standing. Six $1,500 prizes are awarded. The Cooperative Credit Union Association’s college scholarship contest is held each year from late January to early March.
Candy Bars to Benefit the Homeless
Each fall, RTN raises funds for Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless by selling Hope Candy Bars in all branches. Credit unions across the state participate in this fundraiser, which is part of the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative.
Blankets for Families Experiencing Homelessness
RTN joins with the Cooperative Credit Union Association and participating credit unions across the state to collect new blankets for families experiencing homelessness. The blanket drive is part of the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative. All blankets go to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.
