Credit Union Fundraising – Helping the Homeless

Helping homeless teens, families and individuals is a central focus of RTN’s credit union fundraising and community efforts. Most of us don’t realize that homelessness is a family issue. There are 42,000 school-age children in Massachusetts who experience homelessness each year.

Our signature charitable fundraising event is Walk Home, our annual walk in support of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. This 5K benefit walk raises funds for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. Funds are collected through RTN GoodWorks Foundation. Since its inception in 2011, Walk Home has raised more than $180,000 to help homeless teens and families.

Walk Home brings together RTN members and staff, along with community residents, local and state dignitaries and politicians, and business sponsors. Each June, 5K Walk events are held simultaneously in Danvers, Dorchester and Waltham.

Annual Sock Drive for the Homeless

RTN Federal Credit Union participates in Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program’s Annual Sock Drive.

RTN collects new white socks and rubber flip flops that will be distributed to homeless people to help reduce the risk of skin infections, prevent frostbite and foster good hygiene in this vulnerable population.

Donations are collected in RTN branches in Brookline, Danvers, Dorchester Lower Mills, Marlborough and Waltham.
