April is Credit Union Youth Month

The focus is on youth this month as we, along with credit unions nationwide, celebrate Credit Union Youth Month. Learning to save and spend wisely at a young age is key to a secure financial future, and we’re here to help our young members develop smart money habits.

  • We offer kids savings accounts where kids can watch their savings grow. Members ages 24 and younger can learn responsible money management with our Class Act Checking account, which includes a free VISA Debit card, no ATM fees, no monthly balance or monthly fees and many other features.

  • We partner with local schools and community organizations to present complimentary seminars on money management to help teens prepare for their financial future. They learn how to manage the money they earn, how to plan for future earnings, how to invest money and how to think about future debt.

  • The annual James A. Burley, Jr. Scholarship Contest reflects our investment in the next generation of RTN members. Each year we award a total of $10,000 to three students who are members or dependents of members and are enrolled in an undergraduate or post-high school technical college. Details about the 2022 contest can be found here. We’re proud to play a role in helping to make higher education more financially accessible for our member families.

  • RTN also participates in the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) College Scholarship Contest for high school seniors and the CCUA’s Essay Contest for seventh and eighth graders. Through these programs, we submit entries from our members to the CCUA for judging. The CCUA awards six $1,500 college scholarships, and eight prizes to the winners of the Essay Contest, including one first-place prize of $500.
