Financial Education for the Next Generation

This summer, we are helping young people develop financial skills to become the next generation of valued employees, credit union members and consumers.

Here’s a summary of our summer youth-related activities:

RTN was one of the participating credit union partners of the 5th annual Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc.’s (CCUA) Reality Fair program known as “Scholars and Cents” at the Massachusetts State House on August 1. Nearly 70 high school, college, and graduate student interns participated in this credit union-founded financial education program designed by credit unions.

This interactive event helps young people understand real life financial issues by assigning them occupations and salaries so they can figure out how to create spending and savings plans. Other credit union partners were City of Boston Credit Union, Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union, and Metro Credit Union.

RTN is once again partnering with Waltham Partnership for Youth (WPY), to provide financial education to students participating in their summer internship program. In August, we are hosting “Make the Most of Your Money” to two groups of high school students who are working as summer interns. This interactive seminar covers a wide range of financial concepts and information, and provides students an opportunity to ask questions, and share their thoughts on saving and spending money.

In addition, RTN is a participating local employer, with a Waltham High School student working at our Waltham branch for the summer months.
