RTN Awards $10,000 through Burley Scholarship

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the James A. Burley, Jr. Scholarship Awards.

Scarlett Souter of Windham, NH received the top award of $5,000. She will be attending Dartmouth College this fall. Emily Graziani of Westford earned $3,000 as the second-place award recipient. She will be attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Sabine Tessono of Framingham took home a third-place award of $2,000 and she will be attending Boston University.

Each year, the scholarship awards totaling $10,000 are presented to three college-bound students whose parents are Credit Union members. The annual award is named in honor of RTN’s late Chairman and Director, James A. Burley, Jr., who served the Credit Union for more than 30 years. This essay contest is open only to RTN members or dependents of RTN members.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their written responses to a thematic-based essay. This year’s topic was “What current event has affected you the most and explain why.”

The Burley Scholarship reflects our investment in the next generation of Credit Union members. RTN is proud to play a role in helping to make the goal of higher education more financially accessible for our member families.

We thank everyone who participated in the contest, and wish all our applicants well in their academic pursuits.

Hi Zina–Thank you for your comment. The James A. Burley, Jr. College Scholarship Contest runs from the end of March/early April through May each year. This contest is open to RTN members or their dependents who will be attending full-time an undergraduate or post-high-school technical college in the fall. We also participate in the annual Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc. College Scholarship Contest.
