Do you remember the excitement and anxiety of your first day of school? Everything from your clothes to your backpack had to be just right before you grabbed your lunch, a handful of #2 pencils, and faced your big day.
Now, imagine facing the day without a school bag, without pencils, and the full array of school supplies. Unfortunately, this is an all-too-real situation for many students starting the new school year.
You can help make the first day of school a little less stressful for families and help children in need by donating to RTN’s annual school backpack and supplies drive. Items collected will benefit students from Waltham elementary schools that offer Cents-ible Savers http://www.rtn.org/bank-with-us/student-accounts/cents-ible-savers-club/, a youth financial education program in partnership with RTN. School administrators will identify the recipients and discreetly distribute the supplies.
Donations made at RTN’s Tewksbury’s branch benefit the Wish Project, a non-profit organization serving those in need in the Merrimack Valley. Items will be accepted there through September 7.
We greatly appreciate the donations our members and local businesses have made, with a big thanks to Costco in Waltham for donating 300 backpacks. Now that’s true community spirit.
We invite other organizations and companies to help out as well. You never know how a new #2 pencil may change a child’s life.
Donations are welcome through August 28 and can be dropped off at any RTN branch.
