Last week, several RTN employees joined me as volunteers to buy, prepare and serve dinner to 60 men and women at Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen. Some volunteered through shopping for food, cooking and preparing the meal or serving the delicious food with love.
The funds were contributed through, and the effort was organized by, the RTN Employees Community Outreach Committee. The Committee is made up of RTN employees who organize projects, and contribute funds and volunteer time to assist local organizations and charities in Waltham, as well as other RTN branches who support specific local organizations near their branches.
Bristol Lodge, a program of the Middlesex Human Services Agency and a long-time RTN employer group, is one of the non-profit organizations that the Committee supports regularly. The soup kitchen, located at Immanuel United Methodist Church on Moody Street, serves daily hot meals for local residents in need.
Our ongoing partnership with Bristol Lodge is very special, and we are honored to sponsor and serve dinner a few times during the year. It is a privilege to serve the people in our community and experience the appreciation they have for such a simple act of kindness.
Another current focus of the Committee is our organizing a drive to collect personal or travel-sized toiletries, personal hygiene items and socks to donate to Community Day Center in Waltham. This not-for-profit organization is the only day shelter in the MetroWest area, and is also an RTN employer group. It provides a warm and welcoming place for the homeless and those who may feel alone and isolated.
I am proud of our employees’ volunteer spirit and willingness to help those in need in the local community. It is an ongoing effort that reflects the Credit Union value of community involvement.
