RTN Federal Credit Union has donated $10,000 to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Marathon Team—a group of employees and friends who run for the hospital in support of life-giving breakthroughs each April. The BWH team brings together both first-time runners and experienced marathoners to represent and raise funds for BWH while participating in one of the most elite road races in the world.
The RTN donation is made up of more than $5,000 raised by employees from Medical Area Federal Credit Union (MAFCU) prior to MAFCU’s merger with RTN in 2012. After the Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013, the funds were earmarked to support and honor staff from BWH who were first responders, with RTN making a match contribution.
The Credit Union’s long-standing relationship with BWH goes back to 1952 when Medical Area Federal Credit Union (MAFCU), now part of RTN Federal Credit Union, was founded by employees of the Boston Lying-In Hospital, one of BWH’s predecessor institutions. Brigham and Women’s Hospital is one of the credit union’s largest employer groups and is a cornerstone of the community served by RTN.
